About flyforfun.be

If the cards lead you for the first time to this website: welcome, we hope you find this site interesting and that you visit us frequently!

The site started over four years ago as an online calendar of Belgian aviation events and link database. Quickly articles were added. Although we're a Belgian site, most articles are in Dutch because our French writing is "abominable". However, in whatever language, Dutch, French or English: your contributions are more than welcome!

Legend

No civil traffic allowed
No ultralights allowed
Only open for ultralights
Only open on weekends

Example: 2067G290+ 12/30®

The airfield is at 2067 feet of altitude, has a grass runway ('P' would be a hard surface runway), and is 290 meters long ("+" indicates that there is some overrun, but don't count on this in your calculations!). The runway orientation is 120 and 300 degrees with a righthand circuit when runway '30' is in use.

Performance influencers

As mentioned on the card, these figures are approximations, and should be multiplied when multiple conditions apply. For instance: You need to land on a grass runway (factor 1,15), at an altitude of 1000' (factor 1,05) in a day that the temperature is 10°C above ISA (factor 1,05). If your normal landing roll is 300 meters you will need:

300 x 1,15 x 1,05 x 1,05 = 380 meters

With a normal take-off roll of the same distance you will need:

300 x 1,20 x 1,10 x 1,10 = 436 meters

Mind that the performance figures in your POH are always taken in ideal circumstances. This means a well-trained pilot in an airplane that is new and has full engine power and braking capabilities. Especially when you're going to apply the approximative multipliers, it is wise to also add a safety factor of 33%. This means that a runway for landing and take-off in the above examples should be 506 and 580 meters respectively!

Errata / additions

  • Some sources state that the safety factor for the landing figures should be 1,43 instead of 1,33. We will adhere to this.
  • After the print of the cards Zutendaal, EBSL, opened. Zutendaal Radio: 134,92MHz, 312P399 06/24, Strict PPR: 0474.07.067.41, Gliders only!

Where to get the cards?

The cards will be distributed from February on. In case you don't find these cards in your flying club or airfield, you can order some (for free off course) on aviationshop.be.

Remarks, errors, ...

Any other remarks or errors in the card can be send to us through the contact form.

100% recycled paper

When we noted that at printconcept.be the price of the flyers is the same printed on normal or recycled paper, the decission to go for the latter was quickly made. Nice to know is that also our sponsors fully supported this choice. The fringe benefit for you is that this paper is easier to write some notes on than the glossy white kind, and that it's a little bit easier on the eye in bright sunlight.

Disclaimer

We think that the information on the cards, and the format in which it is presented is usefull for pilots. However, this is not official preflight material! Please always consult an official publication like the AIP which you can find online on the site of EAD-Eurocontrol.

A list of all the ultralight fields, as well as the relevant landing and noise abatement procedures can be found on the site of the Belgian ULM Federation.
